Remember yesterday, when your home was on fire and you got to save five items? That means you left a lot of stuff behind. What are the things you wish you could have taken, but had to leave behind?
I really wish I would have been able to grab mix trusty Kitchen Aid mixer, but it weighs a TON, so hauling that along with my sewing machine and the other crap I hauled out of the house would have been difficult-and probably pretty hilarious to watch.
I also would have loved to bring my ridiculously large collection of vintage costume jewelry. Probably not very valuable, but I think it’s pretty cool, and I have a few rare pieces. I’ll miss that too.
Good thing I grabbed my sewing machine, even though I now don’t have anything to use it with. Having to leave behind my stash of fabrics and current projects was kinda sorta heartbreaking.
Oh well, no big whoop, it’s just stuff, right?

Thanks for including our posts! If my house caught on fire, I’d expect the cats to help me haul my vintage collections!
Maybe I should get a couple of cats. My dog isn’t very helpful. I’m sure she’s run outside carrying one slobbery sock in her mouth, which is how she usually rolls. Dumb dog.
You left your fabric scraps behind? Tragic!
Well, I couldn’t haul it all. Oh well, I’m always looking for a reason to buy more.
i want to see a post or two about your costume jewelry with pics!
I would like to! Maybe I should!
Sure, sure… it’s just stuff. But it’s “our” stuff, and I don’t want a pesky fire dictating what I can and can’t keep!
Me either. I do like my stuff!
I LOVE my kitchen aid mixer!!! Thanks to Daily prompt, I am now putting all of my valuables close to exits in case of an emergency. I think they’re out to get us!!
That’s a great idea! I should do that too!
Model some of that costume jewelry for us.
Do you have some Bakelite in there?
I may have a bracelet, but I’m not sure. Bakelite isn’t my favorite. I am a fan of the rhinestone treasures of the 1950′s and I also have a couple of pre 1900 pieces that are pretty special to me. I’ll see if I can find a few nice pieces and do a post about them for the girls who like the old bling bling.
~Hey, are you supposed to be here now? Aren’t you on a schedule or something?
Hahaha … my blogging window today was 10:00 to 12:00. My pithy comment to you went up with two minutes to spare. I’m getting ready to go to the bank and grocery store now. When I get back, I’ll start writing. Yay!
Yay! have a productive afternoon!
Oh, before I go. I love vintage costume jewelry. When I worked and wore suits every day, it was kind of my trademark – I always wore some type of pin.
That’s so badass! Now I really can’t wait to dig it out and let you guys see it. I have a few really interesting pieces.
I saw that prompt yesterday, and thought it was a good one. Glad to see you love your mixer like I love my SodaStream, which might be one of my items. That and my laptop, of course. Oh, and my iPad. And my phone. And…
And……
And….
And……
We are living in a material world, and I am a material girl. Looks like you might be too.
Only when it comes to technology. My clothes and shoes aren’t worth saving…
Sigh…I love shoes. I have a ton of them, but I have old lady feet now, so most of them I can’t wear anymore. I used to have a job where I had to dress up quite a bit,so I still have all of those clothes. Don’t know what for, but hey, every now and then I have to go to a funeral or something, so I hang on to them.
I often ask myself, “Do you own your stuff or does your stuff own you?”
Tsk, tsk. That’s “stuph.”
I thought of that, but I didn’t want to steal your word. I thought it was trademarked or something.
It is, but since I like you you can use it.
Thank you! If I decide to use it, I’ll be sure to give you the credit for it.
Woo hoo!! Now we need to work on how you concur…
….Oh, brother…..
Oh, c’mon. It’s really easy.
Love the stuff you have written … stuff happens but the possibilities of what you would have created with the fabric … but at least you have the sewing machine to start something new.
Oh yeah, and a really good excuse to buy more fabric!
love the jewelry – would have been in my first five
I didn’t even give it a thought until today, so I guess it isn’t as valuable to me as the stuff I chose yesterday. But I do still love it!

It may only be stuff, but it’s your stuff and it defines you most interestingly..
Yes, it does define us, doesn’t it? Thanks!

Your stuff defines you, but everything except the 5 things you took yesterday can all be replaced. People, pets, pics, computers, etc. cannot be replaced.

Good to read. Thanks.
Hi there, and thank you!
The funny thing is that in an actual fire, most people panic and grab a teddy bear or a kitchen chair…
I would probably do that too.
I think you would.
